The Pirates and Nationals split a four-game set this weekend after a dominant performance from Jared Jones ($8,400; 31.35 FPTS) on Sunday afternoon.
Jones earned more fantasy points than any other starting pitcher on the early slate by holding the Nationals to only two earned runs on four hits while picking up nine strikeouts in seven innings. He got through those seven innings on just 92 pitches and retired 16 in a row.
In his 19 starts this rookie season, Jones has an impressive total of 115 strikeouts in 108 1/3 innings. He lowered his ERA to 3.82 on the year and has allowed three runs or fewer in four of his last five starts. The Pirates are hopeful that Jones and Paul Skenes can anchor their rotation for many years to come.
On Sunday, he got run support from Joey Bart ($3,900; 16 FPTS) and Andrew McCutchen ($4,000; 17 FPTS) who both homered along with Michael A. Taylor ($4,000; 17 FPTS), who flexed with his 100th career home run.
C.J. Abrams ($5,700; 14 FPTS) homered in the loss for the Nationals.
The Pirates and Nationals both are out of the playoff race at this point in the season, but both teams have lots of young talent which gives them hope for the future. The Pirates host the young Marlins to start the week, while the Nats will head home to host the Braves starting on Tuesday.
