All-Star Ketel Marte ($5,800) has been sidelined since August 18 after battling a nagging ankle injury that had him in and out of the lineup for about a week before he was placed on the 10-day IL. He’ll be back in action this Friday night, though, when his Diamondbacks visit the Astros in Houston.
Marte is hitting .298 on the season in his 500 plate appearances with 30 home runs and six stolen bases. His .389 wOBA would be his best since the 2019 season, when he set his previous career-best with 32 homers. He’ll have a chance to challenge that mark as he ramps up to help the D-Backs prepare for another postseason run.
The switch-hitting Marte gives the top of Arizona’s order some balance, especially against lefties like Framber Valdez ($9,600). Marte is hitting .355 with a .461 wOBA against lefties on the season, including 16 of his 30 homers. Getting him back to 100% health and in the groove will be key to Arizona finding success again in October.
The Diamondbacks start this series in Houston 5 1/2 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and in possession of the second of three Wild Card spots. They are +7000 to win the division but –160 to get to 90+ Regular Season wins. In the postseason, Arizona is +1100 to win the National League and +2500 to win the World Series.
