The San Diego Padres will likely make the playoffs, as they currently have the best wild card record. But the Arizona Diamondbacks are only a half game back and the Padres are only five games back of the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers. After winning three straight games, they were looking to sweep the lowly Detroit Tigers and gain a half game on the Dodgers.

And things were going so smoothly that John “Hannibal” Smith leaned back on his chair and lit the cigar.

Jurickson Profar ($4,100; 16 FPTS) hit a solo home run in the first inning on a full count to start the festivities.

Xander Bogaerts ($4,200; 22 FPTS) hit a two-run blast the following inning and the Padres were up 3-0.

That looked to be a wrap because Martin Perez ($7,000; 20.65 FPTS) was dealing, going 6.1 innings, striking out five, walking one, and not allowing an earned run on five hits.

On the season, Perez has posted a 7.14 K/9 and 5.07 FIP.

The bullpen did its job getting the ball to closer Robert Suarez ($4,000; -6.9 FPTS), who has 31 saves on the season. Unfortunately, Suarez wasn’t able to lock it down. Suarez gave up a leadoff single, walked the next batter, got an out on a popup, walked another batter, notched a strikeout, then gave up a grand slam to Parker Meadows ($3,900; 23 FPTS) on a full count.

Game. Set. Match.

In the $100K Relay Throw tournament, Profar was rostered on 8.8% of teams, Bogaerts was on 6.8%, Perez was on 17.8%, and Meadows was on only 1.1%.
