The Colorado Rockies always have a puncher’s chance at home due to the altitude. While they are still under .500 in Colorado with a 32-37 record, on the road only the Chicago White Sox are worse. Chicago is 14-55 on the road while Colorado is 20-52.
The Rockies have scored the third-fewest runs and are the only pitching staff to have a FIP over 5.
On Thursday, Austin Gomber ($6,700; 29 FPTS) took the mound, looked the three-game losing streak in the face and said, “I’m the captain now.” Gomber went eight innings, struck out six, did not issue a walk, and allowed only one earned run on five hits. The six strikeouts tied a season high and it was the second time he went at least eight innings in a start this season.
His counterpart Reynaldo Lopez ($9,900; 28.5 FPTS) was also great, striking out 11 in six innings. The 11 strikeouts were a season-high and it was the second time he struck out at least 10 batters in a game this season. He did not walk a batter and allowed two earned runs on five hits, both on home runs.
Michael Toglia ($4,600; 23 FPTS) hit a solo shot in the second inning on an 0-2 count.
Toglia scored two runs on the night, walked, and stole a base.
In the sixth inning, Ezequiel Tovar ($5,100; 22 FPTS) hit a solo home run in the sixth inning on an 0-1 count.
Tovar also stole a base. Four different Rockies stole at least a base.
