The Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning — now defending — Super Bowl Champions. Their campaign to be the first team ever to win three back-to-back Super Bowls starts on Thursday night vs. the Baltimore Ravens at 8:20 p.m ET. Currently, the Chiefs are the favorites to win Super Bowl 59 with +500 odds on the DraftKings Sportsbook. No team has received more of the betting handle, with 17% of bets placed coming in on Kansas City, five percent more than any other team.
The most interesting public trend, is that the team with the second-best odds to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy in February, the San Francisco 49ers, only have six percent of the handle. The 49ers are +600 to win the big game on DraftKings Sportsbook but are only the fifth-most bet team by the public. That all could change shortly as the 49ers recently welcomed back stars Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams after holdout drama in the offseason.
The Detroit Lions getting 12 percent of the handle and being the second-most bet team is surprising, even after coming off a great 2023 season. The Lions are +1200 to win the Super Bowl on DraftKings Sportsbook — the fourth-best odds in the NFL. The Lions last year had their best season since 1991 while also winning the NFC North for the first time since 1993.
The New York Jets have the 10th-best odds at +1900 to win it all this season. The Jets, Houston Texans, Cincinnati Bengals and the 49ers all have six percent of the handle to win the Super Bowl.
We will see if the public’s money is on the correct team starting Thursday night, when the Baltimore Ravens, the fourth-most bet team by handle, take on the Super Bowl 58 Champion Chiefs in Kansas City. The Chiefs are the favorite in this game with an over/under of 46 points on DraftKings Sportsbook. Four-time Pro Bowler, one-time All-Pro and 2020 AP Offensive Player of the Year Derrick Henry will make his debut with the Ravens after spending the first eight seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans. Henry has been one of the league’s most dominant running backs since entering the NFL in 2016, totaling at least 1,000 yards in five of the previous six seasons.
