Following the FedExCup Playoffs and Scottie Scheffler capping off his incredible season with his first ever FedExCup victory, the world’s No. 1 player will join forces with fellow PGA TOUR star Rory McIlroy in a televised golf match in mid-December. They’ll face LIV Golf stars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, per Golf Week’s Eamon Lynch.
A PGA TOUR vs. LIV event has been a golf fan’s dream ever since the latter circuit started pulling big names away from the former, and while this is a smaller four-player match, Scheffler and McIlroy are the faces of the PGA TOUR and DeChambeau and Koepka are without a doubt two of the biggest players of LIV Golf, especially with DeChambeau becoming a YouTube star as of late.
While the course this will event be played at has yet to be announced, it will be a venue in Las Vegas. TNT will also be broadcasting this tournament, which is the network that broadcasted all nine prior editions of The Match. However, Lynch notes in his article that is unknown if this PGA TOUR vs. LIV event will be a continuation of The Match, so it remains to be seen what the official title of this anticipated faceoff will be.
Including a Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics, Scheffler won eight times this past season and with the heavyweight on their side, the duo of Scheffler and McIlroy will almost certainly be the betting favorite for this match on the DraftKings Sportbook. Another factor to keep an eye on is if Shadow Creek in Las Vegas ends up as the host for this event, which is a possibility, as Shadow Creek hosted the first ever edition of TNT’s The Match. The event being played at that course would certainly give an advantage to the PGA TOUR pairing, as Shadow Creek was designed by the great Tom Fazio and McIlroy is well-known specialist at Fazio designs, with many wins at courses created by the famous architect.
