The San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks are in a good position to grab two of the wild card slots in the National League. The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets are three games back in the win column for the final spot. The Chicago Cubs are on the outside looking in, sitting four games back in the win column.
Things look bleak with 23 games left in the regular season, especially after dropping the first two games at home against the cellar dwellers in the NL Central, the Pittsburgh Pirates. Prior to that, they swept the Pirates and Washington Nationals. On Wednesday, they returned to winning ways in impressive fashion with a 12-0 victory.
While the offense should get most of the shine, it’s the pitching that gets showered with accolades.
Shota Imanaga ($9,500; 32.55 FPTS) got the start, went seven innings, struck out seven, walked two and did not allow a hit. The bullpen pitched two perfect innings for the combined no-hitter.
For offense, the Cubs scored three runs in the second and third innings then put up two runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Chicago finished with 12 runs on 17 hits.
Dansby Swanson ($3,800; 28 FPTS) hit a two-run home run in the third inning. Swanson finished with three hits, three RBI, two runs and a double.
Pete Crow-Armstrong ($3,500; 28 FPTS) then went back-to-back. He also finished with three hits, three RBI, two runs and a double.
Cody Bellinger ($5,400; 21 FPTS) sent the first pitch he saw in the sixth inning over the center field wall for a two-run blast. Bellinger also had a single and scored another run.
In the $200K Bat Flip tournament, Imanaga was rostered on 29.6% of teams. Crow-Armstrong was on 4.8%, Swanson was on 9.5% and Bellinger was on 3.6%.
