WNBA Picks: Basketball Best Bets, Predictions, Odds on DraftKings Sportsbook for September 3

After a full day without games on Labor Day, the WNBA returns to action with a four-game Tuesday slate. There are many options to play on DraftKings Sportsbook if you want to get in on the action.

Let’s look below at my top bets for Tuesday’s WNBA betting card and an analysis based on recent trends and player strength.

Seattle Storm vs. Connecticut Sun

Sun Cover -4-Point Spread -105

The Sun and Storm faced each other on Sunday in what proved to be a 93-86 victory for Connecticut. Brionna Jones set the tone with 26 points in what featured five double-figure scoring performances across the team.

With a 6-2 record after the Olympic break, the Sun has played some of the best basketball in the WNBA. Connecticut is one of four teams with two or fewer losses during this span, while producing a 5.4 net rating (4th). Against a struggling Storm squad that has gone 2-5 during this same period—a record better than only the Sky and Sparks—it’s difficult to envision Connecticut not defending homecourt again.

Marina Mabrey has continued to serve as a helpful contributor since being traded from Chicago. She’s averaged a team-most 15.5 points per game while shooting an impressive 48.0% overall and 46.0% from beyond the arc. She proved to be a difference-maker on Sunday against Seattle by scoring 15 points. Mabrey has fit in very well with what already was an impressive team. Connecticut has +600 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook, which ranks fourth in the WNBA.

Washington Mystics vs. Dallas Wings

Wings Cover -5.5-Point Spread -112

Before losing a hard-fought game against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, the Dallas Wings had achieved a three-game winning streak, with Arike Ogunbowale, Satou Sabally, and Natasha Howard putting together strong performances. Similarly, the Mystics had a three-game winning streak snapped as a result of losing to the Sun by double figures on Saturday.

Both teams will seek to achieve a strong bounce-back performance. Dallas thrives with a high-powered offense but struggles to get stops, while Washington plays tough defense and tends to underwhelm offensively. With the Wings being at home, perhaps they deserve the benefit of the doubt that their style of play will be better imposed.

One factor to consider is Shakira Austin being ruled out due to an ankle injury, who has not played since Aug. 26 in a victory against the Storm. Not only does Austin have a team-best 0.8 net rating on the season, the Mystics have produced a -10.1 net rating in 1,057 minutes played without her. With the Wings having a rotation that deploys size at the five at all times, it could create an advantage for Dallas.

Chicago Sky vs. Las Vegas Aces

A’ja Wilson Over 28 Points -105

It remains to be seen if the Sky will have Chennedy Carter available to play against the Aces. She’s been sidelined due to health and safety protocols. Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon recently updated reporters regarding Carter’s status for Tuesday’s game, saying, “It’s possible, but we’re not sure.” Against the Aces, it’s already challenging enough to be confident in the Sky’s outlook, but with Carter’s uncertain availability, Las Vegas has everything going in its favor.

In three matchups against the Sky, A’ja Wilson averaged 26.3 points despite shooting 39.7% from the floor. She’s taken 22.7 shots from the floor per game in the season series. It’s difficult to envision Wilson—averaging 27.5 points per game overall this season—not reaching the over with a fourth try against Chicago.

With Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso in the frontcourt, it won’t be easy by any means, but Wilson seems due to have a big game against a team she will faced four times and has not yet performed to her usual standard. In front of a packed T-Mobile Arena crowd, surely, the MVP favorite will want to set the tone to show the fans why her team trails only the New York Liberty for championships odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Atlanta Dream vs. Phoenix Mercury

Dream Covers +1.5-Point Spread -108

The WNBA announced a one-game suspension for Natasha Cloud after her seventh technical foul on the season was upheld. However, Diana Taurasi’s technical foul that was called during Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces was rescinded, reducing her total to six on the season and preventing a suspension. Averaging Cloud is one of three players to have assisted on over 500 points this season and provides a clear lift defensively for Phoenix.

The broader trend favors the Dream over the Mercury as well, with or without Cloud on the floor. Since the Olympic break, Atlanta has played better basketball than Phoenix. The Dream has produced a 2.4 net rating during this span, while the Mercury has a -3.0 net rating. With Tina Charles back in the lineup after being out due to personal reasons, the Dream is well-positioned to play spoiler against the Mercury on the road.
