After a holdout of more than a month, OT Trent Williams is reportedly heading back to San Francisco with plans to play in Week 1 against the New York Jets.
The All-Pro is expected to return to practice for the 49ers this week ahead of their Monday Night Football matchup. Williams has been away from the team for over a month over a contract dispute. Williams was still under contract with the 49ers until 2026, but there was no guaranteed money left on his contract. The 36 year old is arguably the best tackle in football and at his age, he wants to make sure he is guaranteed big money for the rest of this deal.
This is a huge win for the 49ers as they will be facing one of the best defenses in the league on Monday Night Football to start their season. This news comes off the back of the news that WR Brandon Aiyuk has also worked out a deal to return to the 49ers after his holdout.
Williams and Aiyuk are now both expected to play against the Jets. The 49ers are currently 4-point favorites in their first game since losing the Super Bowl in February. The return of both Williams and Aiyuk certainly makes 49ers fans and bettors more confident as they are two essential pieces of this team that made it to the Super Bowl last season.
