Draisaitl and the Oilers have reached an agreement on an eight-year extension, with an average annual value of $14 million for the center. The new deal will begin next season and this contract makes Draisaitl the highest-paid player in the NHL. While the Oilers lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to the Panthers last season, Draisaitl was a massive reason why Edmonton found as much success as it did and was nearly crowned the champions. As next year approaches, Edmonton will be paying both Connor McDavid and Draisaitl nearly $30 million annually, making it that much more important to prioritize winning a cup with this roster as soon as possible.
After finishing with 106 points in the regular season – which marked the fifth time in the last six years that the 28-year-old has eclipsed 100 points – Draisaitl produced 31 points in the Oilers run to the Stanley Cup Finals. This eight-year deal almost certainly means the center will finish his career with Edmonton, which is huge news for the franchise. Draisaitl is one of the most impactful offensive players in the NHL and with him signing this extension with the Oilers, the club is currently the favorite to win the 2024-25 Stanley Cup at +800 on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
