Yankees edge Rangers 8-4 behind Gerrit Cole’s gem

After dropping their last two series to sub-.500 teams, the Yankees‘ hopes of winning the AL East have taken a severe blow. With their ace on the mound, New York seemed to get back on track with a statement win Monday night.

Gerrit Cole ($9,000; 26.5 FPTS) was every bit of his Cy Young self, punishing Rangers batters across six dazzling frames. The 33-year-old fanned nine on just 82 pitches while only allowing one earned run. Unfortunately for the pinstripes, Cole exited early with a trainer after grabbing his right calf. He was able to walk off under his own power, and the injury didn’t appear severe.

Gleyber Torres ($4,200; 17 FPTS) sparked the offense, collecting a trio of hits and a pair of RBI. In the top of the eighth, Giancarlo Stanton ($4,800; 14 FPTS) put the game to bed with a solo shot for his 25th blast of the season.

The Rangers‘ lone bright spot was Wyatt Langford ($3,800; 21 FPTS), who launched his ninth homer of the campaign.

Despite their recent woes, the Yankees are still the favorites to win the American League at +250 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
