After missing over two months, All-Star Fernando Tatis Jr. is back in the lineup for the Padres on Monday night against the Tigers. Tatis will bat second and play RF.
Before landing on the 60-day IL with a right femoral stress reaction, Tatis hit .279 with 14 home runs and eight stolen bases. In his first 80 games this season, he posted a .356 wOBA. He was especially strong in the reverse-split against righties, hitting .298 with a .374 wOBA.
In his return, he’ll be at home against righty Ty Madden ($4,000). In Monday night’s DFS contests, including the MLB $150K Relay Throw [$50K to 1st], Tatis is priced at $5,100. He will be high-risk since this is his first game back after such a long layoff, but his ownership may be lower as a result. He always brings a great ceiling, regardless, with his power/speed combo.
Tatis and the Padres are -225 against the visiting Tigers since they’ll be giving the ball to Joe Musgrove ($8,000). Tatis is +425 to hit a home run and -265 to get a hit in his return.
The return of Tatis will be a big boost to the Padres as they push for the postseason. They begin the week tied with the Diamondbacks for the top Wild Card spot, three games ahead of the Braves and in that race and five games behind the Dodgers in the NL West.
If you think Tatis can start a Padres’ push, they are +1200 to win the division and +700 to win the National League. Since they are firmly in playoff position at this point, they’re -1400 to make the playoffs.
