PITCHER

Stud

Logan Gilbert, Seattle Mariners at Oakland Athletics ($9,600) โ€” This DraftKings MLB DFS pick checks every box. The pitcher is elite. The park favors pitchers. The opposing offense does pitchers’ favors. The Athletics have a 25% K-Rate and .303 wOBA against right-handed pitching.

Gilbert is having the best season of his career. He’s striking out batters (9.0 K/9) while limiting walks (1.6 BB/9) and home runs (0.9 HR/9). His advanced stats โ€” 3.27 xFIP โ€” match his traditional stats (3.09 ERA).

Value

Ty Madden, Detroit Tigers at San Diego Padres ($4,000) โ€”ย The August 26 MLB DFS value pick is still the pick. Madden’s salary didn’t budge. The 2021 No. 32 Overall Pick was impressive in his MLB debut after a shaky season at Triple-A โ€” high strikeouts but high walks and home runs. Madden allowed one earned run and four hits in five innings at Chicago.

The White Sox are an easier matchup than the Padres. Chicago is the worst vs. fastballs and sliders (Madden’s two-pitch repertoire). San Diego is the best. The matchup is tough but the salary is the minimum.

INFIELD

Stud

Oneil Cruz, Pittsburgh Pirates at Chicago Cubs ($5,500) โ€” SP Jameson Taillon ($6,900) is a pitcher to pick on Monday. He allows a .337 wOBA, 1.6 HR/9 and 40% Hard Contact to left-handed hitters. Cruz has a .355 wOBA, .196 ISO and 126 wRC+ against right-handed pitching. He’s hitting .500 over the last week.

Stud

Francisco Lindor, New York Mets vs. Boston Red Sox ($6,000) โ€” The Mets and Red Sox are sitting on the wrong side of the Wild Card bubble. The hitters need to step up. Lindor will get his chance against SP Bryan Bello ($7,200) โ€” .354 wOBA, 1.7 HR/9 and 4.65 xFIP vs. LHB. Lindor has a .350 wOBA and 129 wRC+ against right-handed pitching.

Value

Josh Jung, Texas Rangers vs. New York Yankees ($3,700) โ€” SP Gerrit Cole ($9,000) hasn’t been Gerrit Cole since his return from the IL (4.03 xFIP). Right-handed hitters have been a problem โ€” .366 wOBA and 2.1 HR/9. Jung has hit safely in seven of the last eight games.

Value

Josh Rojas, Seattle Mariners at Oakland Athletics ($2,500) โ€” It’s a Josh day. This is the cheap one. It’s the red one. It’s the red-hot one. Rojas has scored 15 DKFP or more in each of his last three starts.

OUTFIELD

Stud

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks ($7,000) โ€” The DK Network MLB DFS Targets article features a min-priced pitcher and hitter. Ohtani’s hefty price tag is affordable in combination with the austere options above. Ohtani homers, steals and scores. What else is there to ask for?

Stud

Aaron Judge, New York Yankees at Texas Rangers ($7,000) โ€” It might be too tough to squeeze the inevitable NL and AL MVPs into the same DraftKings MLB DFS lineup. It can happen with a couple of punts. The Judge is not just having a great season. It’s an all-time season. His OPS+ is better than Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. It only trails Barry Bonds (70 home run season).

Value

Jesse Winker, New York Mets vs. Boston Red Sox ($3,500) โ€” The Nationals did Winker a favor as they turned toward their future. Winker is playing meaningful baseball. The Mets are in the playoff race and Winker is stepping up. Winker has a multi-hit game in each of his last three starts.

Value

Matt Vierling, Detroit Tigers at San Diego Padres ($4,100) โ€” Flawed pitchers open the door for MLB DFS value picks. SP Joe Musgrove ($8,000) is a good pitcher but struggles with right-handed hitters โ€” .352 wOBA, 1.5 HR/9, 4.23 xFIP and 42% Hard Contact Rate. Vierling has a .424 wOBA, .200 ISO and 181 wRC+ over his last 10 games.
