Orioles SP Zach Eflin spins nine strikeouts in return

Coors Field? Elevation? Coming back after 15 days on the Injured List? No big deal apparently, since Zach Eflin ($11,000 in showdown; 32.75 FPTS) overcame all those elements to put together an excellent outing in Denver on Sunday afternoon. He helped lead the Orioles to a series win over the Rockies.

Eflin only needed 85 pitches to throw seven scoreless innings. He allowed four hits, one run and finishing with nine strikeouts.

He was 60.8% owned and in 33.0% of the Captain’s Pick spots in the MLB SHOWDOWN $3K EXTRA INNING [$1K TO 1ST] (BAL @ COL). Not coincidentally, he was the Captain’s Pick in the entry that finished on top from falkor7.

Eflin has allowed just three runs total over his last three starts. He’s also impressed with 24 strikeouts in 20 innings in wins over the Rays, Red Sox and Rockies. Sunday, he got the support he needed from the Orioles, even though the entire lineup only had two extra-base hits. Both came from backup catcher and masked man James McCann ($4,200; 21 FPTS), who was owned in only 12.2% of entries.

Gunner Henderson ($10,000; 7 FPTS) was also a key part of the winning entry after collecting two hits and a stolen base. Jackson Holliday ($5,000; 7 FPTS) finished his big series with another hit and stolen base.

The Orioles closed to just a half-game behind the Yankees in the AL East with the win, and now they come home for six games against the White Sox and Rays.

They will start that important homestand at -105 to win the division. They’ll have a good chance to make up some ground while the Yankees go on the road to Texas and Chicago.
