Georgia came into their opening game of the season as the #1 ranked team in the country and the favorites to win the National Championship at DraftKings Sportsbook. However, this was no easy way to start the season, facing #14 Clemson on a neutral field.
The first half of the game was really slow for both teams. Georgia led 6-0 at halftime in a touchdown-less first half where both teams appeared to be just feeling each other out.
However, in the second half, Georgia came out strong and scored touchdowns on their first two drives of the second half. That gave Georgia firm control of the game and they never looked back after that.
The Dawgs started to pour it on in the fourth quarter, and pulled away to make it a dominant victory. Georgia controlled the time of possession battle, and their defense completely shut down the Clemson passing attack.
Georgia QB Carson Beck had a strong first game of the season. He remains among the top of the odds board to win the Heisman at DraftKings Sportsbook. He finished with 278 passing yards and two touchdowns. Transfer WR Colbie Young scored a touchdown in his first game for the Bulldogs, and freshman RB Nate Frazier also picked up a touchdown. This was all in the absence of starting RB Trevor Etienne, who was suspended for this game.
The futures odds for both teams didn’t shift much after this game. Georgia still remains the favorite to win the National Championship at +300 and Clemson is 40/1 to win it all.
Clemson is not up to the level of Georgia, but they still hope to have a competitive season in the ACC and get into the College Football Playoff. Although, QB Cade Klubnik really struggled in his first game of the season, albeit against an elite Georgia defense.
Both teams have much easier matchups next week with Clemson facing App State and Georgia taking on Tennessee Tech.
