The Yankees took the first game of the three-game series on Friday, but the Birds bounced back in the Bronx on Saturday, getting a 6-1 victory behind a strong outing from veteran starting pitcher Kyle Gibson ($11,000 in Showdown; 26.75 FPTS).
Gibson earned his eighth win of the season with seven strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits with six strikeouts. After he departed with a 6-1 lead, the Cardinals bullpen made things interesting by giving up four runs in the eighth inning. In the ninth, Juan Soto ($9,600; 5 FPTS) doubled with two outs and Aaron Judge ($10,000; 7 FPTS) was intentionally walked. Friday’s hero Austin Wells ($7,200; 12 FPTS) came to the plate with two out an two on, but struck out, as closer Ryan Helsley preserved the 6-5 victory.
Since the contest in the Bronx was the only early afternoon game, it was available as a Showdown contest on DraftKings, with the biggest prize pool in the 15K Extra Inning [$5K to 1st] (STL @ NYY). After some late back-and-forth at the top of the standings, this entry from fja2k emerged in the top spot as the game went final.

The Yankees actually took an early lead after Wells doubled and scored on an RBI by Anthony Volpe ($7,400; 12 FPTS). The Cardinals tied the game in the third inning on a single by Nolan Arenado ($6,400; 7.0 FPTS), and then it was Brendan Donovan ($6,000; 18 FPTS) who stepped up and delivered the biggest blow of the game with a three-run homer that broke the game open.
The Cardinals are back to .500 at 68-68 after their win on Saturday, while the Yankees are 79-57 and hold a one-game lead over the Orioles in the AL East. The teams will close out their three-game series on Sunday afternoon as Nestor Cortes takes on Miles Mikolas at 1:35 p.m. ET. The Yankees are -198 on the money line for that game, and the over/under is 9.
