Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders Surge Up the Heisman Odds Board After Week 1 Win

Colorado opened their 2024 season with a close win over North Dakota State on Thursday night. It didn’t take long for bettors to get money down on both Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to win the Heisman. Here is a look at the current Heisman odds at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Colorado is one of the most polarizing teams in college football. Whether you like the team or not, the talent of QB Shedeur Sanders and WR/CB Travis Hunter is undeniable. On Thursday night, Sanders and Hunter carried the Buffaloes to victory against North Dakota State. There were a lot of issues on the offensive line and defensive side of the ball for Colorado, but the Sanders-to-Hunter connection looked better than ever.

Sanders finished the game with 445 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those touchdowns went to Travis Hunter who had 132 yards through the air. In addition to the three receiving touchdowns, Hunter also played nearly every snap at cornerback for Colorado’s defense. His Ohtani-like ability to play at an elite level on both sides of the ball has not been seen in college football in a very long time.

After last night’s performance, bettors flocked to bet on both players to win the Heisman at DraftKings Sportsbook. Before last night’s game, Hunter was 50/1 to win the Heisman. His odds now sit at 25/1 after last night’s performance. He is the most bet player to win the Heisman in the last 24 hours with 33% of the handle and 34% of the bets at DraftKings Sportsbook. After the game, Sanders also moved from 35/1 to 20/1 to win the Heisman.

Overall, since the market opened, Sanders has 5% of the handle on 4% of bets and Hunter has 7% of the handle on 6% of bets at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Notably, Sanders and Hunter were also at the forefront of this conversation after Week 1 last season. After their huge upset win over TCU, Hunter moved from 80/1 all the way to 25/1 to win the Heisman after that game as well, with Sanders also getting some love.

If these two continue to put up numbers like this all season, they will undoubtedly be in the Heisman conversation. Their biggest hurdle to win the award could be Colorado’s record as a team. Traditionally, a player needs to be on a team in playoff contention to win the Heisman, which is very unlikely for Colorado. However, an incredibly unique player like Travis Hunter could be someone to break that trend. The Buffaloes have a tough test on the road against Nebraska next week, which will say a lot about this Colorado team.
