Few pop culture mergers have been as significant as Taylor Swift and the NFL.
The country-turned-pop star has a decorated music career and a rabid fanbase, unlike any other active artist. Last year, she became a familiar face on NFL broadcasts following her blossoming relationship with Chiefs star Travis Kelce.
The power couple has been dating for over a year, and both continue to see incredible success in their respective fields. Heading into the 2024 NFL season, it is possible that Taylor Swift could be even more involved than last year. Her Eras Tour is winding down and returning to the United States after a streak of successful overseas appearances. The music superstar is expected to gross over $1 billion in earnings during this tour, with the final stop performance set to occur on December 8, 2024.
Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes recently sat down with NBC’s Chris Simms in preparation for this season. The two discussed a variety of topics in their 25-minute conversation, including Swift.
The three-time Super Bowl champion referred to Swift as “genuine” and “cool” during the conversation. He also was incredibly complimentary of her impact on growing the game of football among female fans. Mahomes mentioned how this particularly hit home for him as he has a daughter already and another on the way.
The superstar quarterback then (jokingly) teased that Taylor Swift could be stepping out of the stands this season, stating, “She’s really interested in football. She asks many great questions. She’s already drawing up plays, so we might have to put one in.”
While Andy Reid should not feel threatened by Swift’s playcalling ability just yet, it is cool to see her show a genuine interest in football. It is also cool to see Mahomes let down his competitive guard and have a little fun in the interview. While Swift may claim, “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle,” Swift may have more football interest than people give her credit for.
Kelce and the Chiefs will be looking to make NFL history this season by becoming the first team to ever win three consecutive Super Bowls. They will need to be ‘Fearless’ in protecting their ‘Reputation’ on the field while we see if Kelce’s ‘Love Story’ with Swift continues off of it.
The Chiefs are the favorites to win it all once again this season at +500 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. They are also +300 favorites to win the AFC and -260 to win the AFC West and hold a season-long win total of 11.5 games with the over favored at -115 odds.
Kelce will be looking to improve on what was a down individual season for him last year by his sky-high standards. The 34-year-old was held under 1000 yards receiving for the first time since 2015, and his five touchdowns have been the fewest since 2019.
It will be interesting to see how visible Taylor Swift is at Chiefs games this season. But it would be hilarious if Andy Reid listened to the singer’s play-call ideas. The legendary head coach is one of the great offensive minds the sport of football has seen and has shown a willingness to think outside the box before. Maybe Karma will be the offensive coordinator for the Chiefs, after all.
