As the Red Sox try to stay alive in the AL Wild Card chase, they’ll get Rafael Devers back in the lineup, hitting cleanup for Friday night’s series opener against the Tigers in Detroit.
The plan is for the Red Sox to use Devers as DH on Friday and Saturday before he returns to third on Sunday. He has been battling issues in both of his shoulders and sat out each of Boston’s last three games against the Blue Jays.
He initially hurt his left shoulder all the way back in Spring Training, but has played through the injury. He also hurt his right shoulder when he dove for a grounder in Colorado. He has been able to avoid the IL for either shoulder issue so far this season.
Devers and the Red Sox are -120 on Friday against the Tigers, and Devers is -285 to get a hit and -160 to have over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs. He is hitting .290 with 28 homers and a .389 wOBA this season. His 150 wRC+ would be a new career-best for the 27-year-old.
In DFS contests, including MLB $30K Extra Inning [$10K to 1st] (Turbo) Devers has a $5,900 salary and can be a solid pay-up option at the hot corner in his matchup with righty Casey Mize ($7,000). Mize will be making his first start after being activated off the 60-day IL. Another important note for DFS contests is that Nick Sogard ($2,500) will start at 3B and could be a great value in a middle infield spot.
The Red Sox start this series 3 1/2 game behind the Twins for the final AL Wild Card spot. They’ll hope to make up ground this weekend while they face Detroit and the Twins tangle with the Blue Jays.
