Will Aaron Rodgers and the Jets make the playoffs?

The return of Aaron Rodgers is one of the most anticipated storylines of this coming NFL season and an article by the Athletic’s Ben Standig that was released Thursday morning has created some buzz around the Jets. In the article, Standig quotes an anonymous NFL agent who stated: “There is complete disarray over there. Look at how they’ve handled Aaron Rodgers. Has one player had more power than him? He skipped minicamp. They have been unable to convert him into a team player. The vibe inside the building is terrible.” After this quote was released Thursday morning, many have decided to bet on the Jets on the DraftKings Sportsbook and the trends have been notable. 100% handle/100% bets on the Jets have been to miss the playoffs, 83% handle/76% bets on the Jets to go under 10.5 wins and Rodgers’ MVP odds have moved from 16/1 to 18/1.

The public is clearly taking those negative comments seriously and while the comments were significant, this is only one anonymous source and this has created a strong opportunity to fade the public and make some positive wagers on the Jets –– specifically, on their odds for over 10.5 wins, which is now at an appealing price of +115 on the DraftKings Sportsbook.

Despite Rodgers only playing a few snaps before going down for the season, New York still won seven games a year ago, even with Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian and Tim Boyle making starts at quarterback after Rodgers got hurt. The Jets reaching seven victories despite their poor and inconsistent quarterback play is a true testament to how strong of a roster they have outside of quarterback. Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall are two of the best skill players at their positions and after a strong campaign last season, the Jets upgraded their offensive line group this summer, most notably with the addition of eight-time Pro Bowler Tyron Smith. On the defensive side of the ball, led by C.J. Mosley and Sauce Gardner, the Jets ranked second in fewest yards per pass allowed and 11th in fewest yards per rush allowed. New York is expected to once again be one of the premier defenses in the NFL and last, but not least, the return of Rodgers makes this club a true Super Bowl contender.

Yes, the veteran is coming off a major Achilles injury, but there were rumors of him being ready to come back late last season and Rodgers back to full strength even at the age of 40 is an egregious upgrade from the quarterback play the Jets had to deal with last season. Before getting hurt in Week 1 last year, in his final season with the Packers at the age of 39 in 2022, Rodgers threw for 3,695 yards and 267 touchdowns, despite a very lackluster offensive group of skill plays.

The four-time MVP has one of the best supporting casts he has ever had in his career this season and backing the Jets to go over 10.5 wins at +115 on the DraftKings Sportsbook is a sharp call, with the public going the other direction. Furthermore, attacking New York at +1900 to win the Super Bowl on the DraftKings Sportsbook has merit, as these odds were shorter earlier this summer.
