According to Las Vegas Raiders beat writer Vincent Bonsignore, Raiders HC Antonio Pierce is optimistic their rookie tight end Brock Bowers ($4,500), whom they selected with the thirteenth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, will be ready to play Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Many people thought it was a nothingburger when Brock Bowers missed the Raiders’s Aug. 18th preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys with a sore foot. Nothing had been reported from practice that week, so it didn’t seem quite right that Bowers was popping up with an injury at game time. It was widely assumed this was just some sort of injury report smoke and mirrors that allowed Bowers to rest.
It seems the injury is indeed real, but, as of now, of no material significance. Fantasy managers and Las Vegas both have high hopes for Bowers this season, who could be a value price, if healthy, at $4,500. In 10 games last year at the University of Georgia, he led the team with 56 catches for 714 yards and six receiving touchdowns. Bowers also finished second in the nation among eligible tight ends in rec. yards (714) and sixth in receiving TDs.
If Bowers sees a diminished snap share or suffers a setback that causes him to miss Week 1, the Raiders also have second-year TE Michael Mayer ($3,100), who ran 21.8 routes and averaged 6.9 targets per game. Mayer would figure to see a significant uptick in looks from QB Gardner Minshew ($5,300), and likely provide fantastic returns at his current DFS price.
