Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice was involved in a high-speed hit and run in Dallas, Texas on March 30. On April 10, the Dallas Police put a warrant out for Rice’s arrest, with him being charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of a crash involving injuries.
On May 7, Rice was under investigation for allegedly punching a photographer at a Dallas club, but the victim later decided not to press charges.
On Wednesday, the NFL announced that they will not put Rice on the commissioner’s exempt list, making him eligible for the Chiefs’ first game of the season against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, September 5 at 8:20 P.M. ET on NBC.
Until Rice’s legal issues are settled with the Dallas police department, the NFL will not issue him a suspension or any disciplinary actions. However, at some point, a suspension is expected for the talented young receiver. Rice has two civil trial dates set for December 2024 and June 2025.
Rice, 24, was a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and exceeded all expectations on the field in his first season. Rice totaled 79 catches, 938 yards and seven touchdowns. He was second in receiving yards and third in touchdown catches among rookie WRs. With new signee Marquise Brown likely missing a few games to begin the season, Rice will be QB Patrick Mahomes’ second option behind TE Travis Kelce.
The Chiefs are -3 point favorites against the Ravens, while the game has an over under of 46.5 points on DraftKings Sportsbook.
