Braves 1B Matt Olson homers twice in loss to Phillies

The Atlanta Braves were five games back of the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies entering Thurday’s contest, the start of a four-game series in Philadelphia.

Things were going to plan early on for the Braves.

Orlando Arcia ($2,900; 9 FPTS) opened up the scoring with a RBI double in the second inning.

In the third inning, Matt Olson ($5,200; 30 FPTS) sent the second pitch he saw over the batter’s eye in center field for a two-run shot. He added a solo home run in the sixth inning to put the Braves up 4-0.

Charlie Morton ($8,300; 14.75 FPTS) was cruising through five innings and did not allow an earned run. Then the sixth inning commenced and Brandon Marsh ($3,100; 23 FPTS) tagged him for a three-run home run on a 1-0 count, knocking Morton out of the game.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Nick Castellanos ($3,900; 21 FPTS) hit a two-run home run for the game winner.

Cristopher Sanchez ($6,900; 19.95 FPTS) allowed the two home runs to Olson and the run-scoring double to Arcia, but he was only charged with two earned runs on the night, as the Phillies had an error. Sanchez finished the night with a walk, eight strikeouts and seven hits allowed in 5.2 innings.

The Phillies now lead the Braves by six games with the teams playing Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are 28 games left in the season.
