If you’ve seen or at least heard of Quarterback, a Netflix series that follows the NFL’s top quarterbacks’ daily lives and are a fan of basketball, then this news should get you excited on this fine Wednesday morning. Netflix has announced that it is set to launch a 10-part sports series titled Starting 5 on Oct. 9, which will offer behind-the-scenes footage of how top NBA players deal with their daily lives in the middle of a hectic season.
The featured players include LeBron James, Anthony Edwards, Jimmy Butler, Jayson Tatum and Domantas Sabonis. The series will be produced by UNINTERRUPTED (James’ media company) in association with Higher Ground Productions and Omaha Productions.
The series will show footage from the 2023-24 NBA season and considering that Netflix has chosen this lineup of players, us viewers are in for quite the unique experience. James entered his 21st season in the NBA while both Edwards and Tatum further increased their stock as top players in the league by making deep playoff runs and in Tatum’s case, securing a record 18th NBA Championship for the Boston Celtics.
Considering Netflix is starting to invest more into the sports industry –– having signed content deals with both the NFL and WWE already this year –– these types of series may become the norm as time goes on. But, who’s complaining about getting a sneak peak into these athlete’s lives on a regular basis? Certainly not me and whether we like it or not, Netflix is likely going to keep churning out content just like this.
