Not a lot has gone right for the Rockies this season, but the emergence of Brenton Doyle ($5,900) is certainly a bright spot. Now, after missing the team’s past two games due to left patella tendinitis, Doyle will return to the lineup for this evening’s tilt against the Marlins and Max Meyer ($6,000).
Doyle is having a breakout campaign in 2024. Well, his bat is. We can’t forget that Doyle won a Gold Glove in his rookie season for his amazing play in center field. However, the 26-year-old’s 45 wRC+ was by far the worst of any of the 212 players with at least 400 plate appearances in 2023. That’s all changed this season. Doyle is suddenly a member of the 20/20 club rocking a .202 ISO and a .343 wOBA.
As you would expect, Doyle’s done most of his damage at Coors Field. In fact, he’s slashing .330/.386/.569 with a .403 wOBA in his 57 games at home in 2024 — which is exactly where he and his teammates will draw tonight’s matchup with Meyer. Formerly a top prospect, Meyer has struggled in his career at the MLB level, posting a 5.68 ERA and a 5.91 FIP in 11 starts. Meyer has also surrendered 2.24 opponent home runs per nine as a big leaguer. That’s not the type of profile you want to be bringing to the altitude.
