The Chiefs bolstered their wide receiver group during the offseason by signing Marquise Brown and drafting Xavier Worthy. Adding those two to the likes of Rashee Rice, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore has left them with plenty of depth at the position. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chiefs will release Kadarius Toney, freeing up a bit of their logjam.
When they Chiefs acquired Toney from the Giants, they took a chance on a former first-round pick with a ton of talent. However, injuries plagued him throughout his time with the Giants and there were concerns about his attitude inside the locker room. He flashed his upside during Week 5 of his rookie season, catching 10 of 13 targets for 189 yards against the Cowboys.
While Toney was available to play in 13 games last year, he finished with just 27 receptions for 169 yards and one touchdown. He was healthy for the Chiefs’ playoff run, but he found himself listed as a healthy scratch. The additions of Brown and Worthy were the final straw that ended his time with the Chiefs. However, given his talent and draft pedigree, another team will likely give him a chance to revive his career.
