Packers RB AJ Dillon (neck) placed on IR

Dillon was placed on injured reserve by the Packers on Tuesday and he wasn’t designated to return, meaning Dillon’s season is over before it has even begun. The veteran has rushed for at least 600 yards in three straight seasons and he was expected to serve as a backup for Josh Jacobs this season.

With Dillon out of the equation, rookie MarShawn Lloyd finds himself with a much bigger role behind Jacobs. Lloyd has been dealing with hip and hamstring injuries of his own and was a candidate to be placed on injured reserve, but him avoiding that list suggests his injuries are less concerning than originally thought. In his final season at USC, Lloyd rushed for 820 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games. Now, if Lloyd is limited or out to start the season, Emanuel Wilson will be the next man up for the No. 2 job with the Packers.

All in all, the primary beneficiary of Dillon landing on injured reserve is Jacobs, who should see a massive role right out of the gate to start this season. Jacobs inked a four-year, $48 million deal to join Green Bay this summer. While he was limited to only eight games a year ago due to a quad injury the season prior, Jacobs was the NFL’s leading rusher with 1,653 yards. The former Pro-Bowler has generated a solid 0.37 DraftKings points per snap over the last two years. He should be a featured piece of this Jordan Love led offense that comes into this season with high expectations after finishing eighth in PPG a year ago.

In the wake of this news on Dillion, Jacobs currently has stronger appeal for Best Ball contests on DraftKings and he has also has merit as a wager to rush for 1000+ yards this season at +115 on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
