On Tuesday, the main DFS fantasy baseball slate on DraftKings begins at 7:10 p.m. ET and includes the nine games under the lights. The Red Sox and Blue Jays start the action for a second straight night with the only divisional matchup on the slate. Coors Field is in play in one of the later matchups as the Rockies host the Marlins, and the late-night hammer is an awesome matchup between the Orioles and the Dodgers in Los Angeles in what could be a World Series preview.
With 18 teams in the player pool, multiple strategies can work on Tuesday’s busy slate. Storylines and narratives are everywhere, from players facing their old squads to emerging options starting to produce at an elite level. SP Andrew Heaney, Texas Rangers at Chicago White Sox, $7,000
Going with whichever starting pitcher is facing the White Sox has been a good strategy overall this season since Chicago is an abysmal 31-101 and on pace to lose more games than any team in the MLB ever has. Their offense ranks last in the MLB in runs scored, ISO and wOBA and has a 24.8% K% against lefties like Heaney.
While Heaney’s matchup couldn’t be much better, that’s not the only reason to roll with the veteran lefty on Tuesday. He has shown some positive trends, picking up eight strikeouts in each of his last two starts and producing 13.6 and 23.1 fantasy points. He held the Pirates scoreless for five innings in his most recent start but took a no-decision. On the season, he has an ugly 4-13 record but his 4.04 ERA and 3.97 FIP aren’t that bad. He has produced over a strikeout per inning on the season and has cranked up the K’s with 56 in 51 2/3 innings over his last 10 outings and a solid 3.61 FIP. Getting him at $7,000 is a relatively low-risk play due to the matchup, and he brings a high ceiling based on his strikeout potential.
SS Geraldo Perdomo, Arizona Diamondbacks vs. New York Mets, $3,200
The Diamondbacks have been one of the most productive offenses in baseball since the All-Star break, leading the MLB in runs and wOBA and trailing only the Yankees in ISO. Perdomo has been a big part of that surge and is in the midst of his best offensive season. He’s in his third full year in the MLB but is still only 24, so it’s very possible he’s just entering his prime. He is hitting a career-best .288 this year with a .329 wOBA and a career-low 14.8% K%.
Recently, Perdomo has been moving to the top of the order against lefties, and that would put him in a great spot to produce against lefty Sean Manaea ($7,700) on Tuesday. Perdomo is hitting .296 against lefties with only nine strikeouts against them all season. He has hit .341 with a .328 wOBA against lefties at Chase Field. Perdomo comes in on a four-game hitting streak that includes two homers and has gone 20-for-62 (.323) with a .385 wOBA, .161 ISO and three stolen bases over his last 16 games.
OF Griffin Conine, Miami Marlins at Colorado Rockies, $2,000
If Conine gets the start on Tuesday, he will offer the rare opportunity to get a starting player at Coors Field at the minimum salary. The son of “Mr. Marlin,” Jeff Conine made his MLB debut on Monday night as a pinch-hitter but struck out on a check swing in the ninth inning.
Conine has more going for him than just a cheap salary and good bloodlines. He hit .268 in his 112 games for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp this season with 19 home runs and a .364 wOBA. He hasn’t shown stolen base potential, but his power and a chance to get Coors Field exposure at only $2,000 makes him a cheap play that has to be considered if he gets his first MLB start. The Marlins face another second-generation MLB player in Cal Quantrill ($6,000), who has allowed 15 runs on 22 hits in 18 innings over his last four starts. Quantrill has let lefties post a .371 wOBA and .491 slugging percentage against him this season at Coors Field, so leaning into Marlins’ lefties like Conine is a great way to go this Tuesday.
