Aaron Judge hit two home runs on Sunday. They were the sixth and seventh long balls he hit last week, bringing his total for the season to 51. Let’s just say people are starting to take notice.
That’s right. Judge is currently on pace to break the American League record for home runs in a single season, which was set in 2022 by… Aaron Judge. The wildest part? His numbers from 2024 dwarf his numbers from that historic campaign. Judge is currently posting career-high marks in batting average (.333), slugging percentage (.736), ISO (.403), expected wOBA (.488) and wRC+ (226). Most importantly, he’s hitting a home run every 10.92 plate appearances. In 2022, it was once every 11.23 plate appearances.

One thing Judge certainly has going in his favor is schedule. With 31 games remaining on the docket, the Yankees opponent winning percentage is just .497. The team is still set to square off with the lowly Athletics, Nationals and Pirates. Even the “tough” matchups New York has left aren’t exactly known for their pitching prowess. The Red Sox’s staff is allowing an MLB-high 1.91 opponent home runs per nine since the All-Star break. In that same span, Boston (1.87), Seattle (1.63) and Baltimore (1.57) sit first, second and third, respectively, in bullpen HR/9. It’s also worth mentioning that 16 of the Yankees’ final 31 contests will take place with the short right field porch in the Bronx.
Judge is slashing .425/.558/.968 in August. Unless he’s going to start getting intentionally walked every other time to steps into the batter’s box, I believe he’ll get this done. 63 here we come.
