Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren told reporters on Monday that he will be ready to play in their first game of the season on September 8 in Atlanta vs. the Falcons.
Warren injured his hamstring and left the Steelers’ second preseason game on August 17 vs. the Buffalo Bills. He only had one carry before exiting the game, so it’s good to see that he is healthy as he is one of the best young RBs in football.
Warren, 25, is entering his third season in the NFL after a successful sophomore season in 2023. He totaled 1,154 combined yards rushing and receiving while catching 61 balls. Warren only scored four touchdowns in his second season for the Steelers. Warren finished 21st among RBs in total yards from scrimmage. Also, Warren’s 61 receptions and 74 targets were good for fifth amongst all RBs in the 2023 season.
It is still unknown who the starting quarterback for the Steelers will be this season. Regardless, both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are huge upgrades from Kenny Pickett, who was their starter a season ago. Warren will backup RB Najee Harris but is still expected to be a huge part of the Steelers’ offense this season.
