PITCHER

Stud

Bailey Ober, Minnesota Twins vs. Atlanta Braves ($9,200) โ€” The Braves aren’t a threat. They’re a borderline Wild Card team. They are no longer the best of the NL. Marcell Ozuna ($5,500) and Whit Merrifield ($3,500) are the only Braves hitting. Ober is trending in the opposite direction. His best days lie ahead. Since the middle of June, Ober is 7-1 with a 2.09 ERA (3.50 xFIP). He’s limiting walks (2.0 BB/9) and striking out batters (9.8 K/9). The Braves lineup has come around, but they’re still strikeout-prone against right-handed pitching (24% K-Rate).

Val

Ty Madden, Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox ($4,000) โ€” A minimum-priced pitcher has to be explored. Madden is the Tigers’ No. 6 Prospect. The 2021 No. 32 Overall Pick cruised through the minors. He averaged an ERA of around three with over 11 strikeouts per nine innings. The cruise hit a bump at Triple-A this season due to walks and home runs. Control is still an issue, but he has strikeout stuff. Madden couldn’t ask for a better debut matchup. The White Sox have a 24% K-Rate, .128 ISO, .274 wOBA and 74 wRC+ against right-handed pitching. They grade out as the worst team against fastballs and sliders. Those are the only two pitches Madden throws.

INFIELD

Stud

Michael Toglia, Colorado Rockies vs. Miami Marlins ($5,300) โ€” It’s a Coors slate. Two bad teams square off in the thin air. It can go two ways. Bad hitters get shut down or bad pitchers get shut up. SP Edward Cabrera ($6,200) allows a .361 wOBA, 2.2 HR/9, 5.25 xFIP and 40% Hard Contact Rate to left-handed batters.

Stud

Jake Burger, Miami Marlins at Colorado Rockies ($5,600) โ€” The hottest hitter in baseball is headed to Colorado. What is there to question? Burger has 17 home runs since July 7 (.384 ISO, .438 wOBA and 183 wRC+ in 170 PA).

Value

Nolan Jones, Colorado Rockies vs. Miami Marlins ($4,500) โ€” It’s more Coors. Hyperfocused picks may be myopic. It might be the path. This game has the highest run line on Monday’s slate (10.5). Jones is hitting a cool .205 but he has hit safely in four straight and posted back-to-back double-digit DKFP games. Edward Cabrera is better against right-handed hitters (3.15 xFIP) but gets in trouble when he doesn’t miss bats (.327 wOBA and 1.5 HR/9).

Value

Connor Norby, Miami Marlins at Colorado Rockies ($3,700) โ€” This isn’t a blind Coors Field MLB DFS value pick. Baltimore didn’t have a spot for their prospect and traded the infielder to the Marlins for Trevor Rogers. Norby has a hit in every game since being called up a week ago (.393 wOBA and .300 ISO). He’s scored double-digit DKFP in four of six games with Miami.

OUTFIELD

Stud

Alec Burleson, St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres ($4,600) โ€” There are options outside of Colorado. SP Randy Vasquez ($6,500) allows a .432 wOBA, 1.7 HR/9 and 5.86 xFIP to left-handed batters. Burleson owns right-handed pitching (.363 wOBA, .214 ISO and 136 wRC+ vs. RHP).

Stud

Brenton Doyle, Colorado Rockies vs. Miami Marlins ($6,000) โ€” The splits aren’t completely on Doyle’s side. His salary is one of the largest on the slate. There is an argument for passing. The stack makes a better case. Doyle is the Rockies’ best power hitter and the opposing pitcher allows a lot of home runs. Doyle must be in the Rockies stack.

Value

Brendan Donovan, St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres ($3,900) โ€” Monday’s slate revolves around Colorado and SP Randy Vasquez. All 10 of Donovan’s home runs have come against right-handed pitchers. He’s just a slightly above-average hitter, but he’s above above-average in this matchup.

Value

Matt Vierling, Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox ($3,800) โ€” SP Davis Martin ($7,500) is another one of the questionable pitchers on Monday’s slate. Through 22 innings, Martin has allowed a .336 wOBA and 4.64 xFIP to right-handed hitters. Vierling has hit in four straight and has a .356 wOBA in August.
