The NFL suspended Arizona Cardinals WR Zay Jones for the first five games of the 2024 NFL season due to violating the personal conduct policy. Jones was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars on April 30 and signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals on May 13 for $4.25 million.
Jones, 29, is a seven-year NFL veteran and played his previous two seasons for the Jaguars. In 2023, Jones only played in nine games for Jacksonville, totaling 321 yards and 34 catches with two touchdowns. Jones had the best season of his NFL career in 2022 for the Jaguars, where he caught 82 passes for 823 yards while having five touchdowns.
Previously, Jones was arrested on November 13, 2023, and charged with a misdemeanor domestic battery for an incident with his child’s mother. The argument allegedly resulted in the woman sustaining a neck injury. But on March 13, the Florida state attorney’s office declined to go ahead and pursue the charge against Jones.
Although Jones wasn’t charged, the NFL proceeded with their own investigation and ended up giving him a five-game suspension. Jones will now be eligible to make his 2024 season debut in Week 6, when the Cardinals go to Green Bay to play the Packers on October 13.
