Like a leopard lying in the bushes, waiting for the prey to get closer, Adam Scott ($8,300; 91 FPTS) shot a four-under 68 on Thursday, two shots off the lead. On Friday, he leapt and pounced, strangling the course and the field with a nine-under 63, tied for the low round of the day.
Scott birdied the first hole then drained three more to close out the front nine. On the back nine, he notched five birdies with a three-hole streak on Holes 12, 13 and 14 to finish the day with an unblemished round.
In the $800K Summer Sand Trap tournament, Scott is rostered on 9.98% of teams.
The only two golfers rostered on over 30% of teams, Xander Schauffele (11,100; 36 FPTS) and Scottie Scheffler ($12,300; 34.5 FPTS), are T23 and T29 respectively.
Schauffele was fine on the front nine with three birdies and a bogey. It all unraveled on the back nine, though, with a birdie then four bogeys to close out the round. He finished Friday with a one-over 73 and is two-under for the tournament, 11 shots off the lead.
Scheffler birdied the first two holes of the day, but then had two bogeys sandwiched around a birdie to close out the front nine. On the back nine, he double-bogeyed the first hole, then had a birdie sandwich with a bogey for meat. He finished an even-par 72 for the day and is one-under for the tournament, 12 shots off the lead.
DraftKings Sportsbook has Scott the favorite to win it all at +160. Schauffele is +4000 while Scheffler is +5000.
