The Washington Commanders have traded WR Jahan Dotson and a fifth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round picks according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Dotson, 24, is a former first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft but hasn’t fully lived up to the player Washington thought that they were getting. Dotson had a productive rookie season in 2022, catching 35 passes for a total of 523 yards and seven touchdowns while missing five games due to injury. But, in 2023 Dotson regressed as he totaled 518 yards, 49 catches and four touchdowns while appearing in all 17 games.
Dotson is from Newark, New Jersey which is a short ride from Philadelphia. Before being drafted, Dotson played for the Penn State Nittany Lions during his collegiate career.
A change of scenery is great for Dotson, as he hasn’t played with an elite quarterback in his career up until this point. Enter Philadelphia, Dotson will join one of the most talented and exciting offenses in the NFL. Dotson will now be catching passes from two-time pro-bowler Jalen Hurts. Dotson will be Philadelphia’s number three wide receiver next to pro-bowler A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith who is one of the best young receivers in the NFL.
Dotson has legit speed as he ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL Combine. He will not be asked to contribute as much on Washington, but his big play ability will be able to be utilized more often with the Eagles.
The Eagles open their season on Friday, September 6 against the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Kickoff will be in primetime at 8:20 P.M. ET on Peacock. The Eagles are the favorites in this game at -2.5 while the over-under is set at 48.5 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Philadelphia has the sixth-best odds to win the Superbowl at +1500 and is +600 to win the NFC Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.
