The Blue Jays jumped out to what looked like an insurmountable lead on Wednesday, scoring three runs in the first inning and another three runs in the third. George Springer ($4,400; 18 FPTS) hit a leadoff home run, and then Spencer Horwitz ($3,900; 27 FPTS) hit a two-run shot a few batters later. In the third inning, Ernie Clement ($3,500; 25 FPTS) put three on the board with a single swing, sending the first pitch he saw into the left field seats.
But all of that was akin to smacking a Hornets nest with a broom, as the Reds responded with two runs in the fourth, five runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to essentially put the game away.
Spencer Steer ($5,200; 23 FPTS) started the comeback with a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning, Jonathan India ($4,500; 26 FPTS) singled in a run, Elly De La Cruz ($6,100; 35 FPTS) drove in two more with another single then scored on a fielder’s choice. The final run of the inning was plated on a bases loaded walk.
In the sixth inning, Noelvi Marte ($3,000; 24 FPTS) hit a solo home run, India went back-to-back, then Tyler Stephenson ($4,200; 16 FPTS) doubled in another run.
De La Cruz hit a home run in the eighth inning to put a cherry on top of the night. He finished with three hits, three RBI, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. The stolen base put him at 60 for the season and he has now joined Ronald Acuna Jr., Rickey Henderson, Eric Davis and Joe Morgan as the only players in MLB history to hit at least 20 home runs and steal at least 60 bases in a season.
