Dan Le Batard: Brian Flores Handled Tua’s Comments Well

Published:

By: Darian Kelly

Dan Le Batard and his crew set the football world on fire this week thanks to the shots fired by Tua Tagovailoa at his former head coach Brian Flores.

On the latest episode of The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, Dan shares his reaction to Flores’ comments addressing Tua at Vikings practice on Tuesday.

Dan expressed to Stugotz that Flores’ performance at the media availability is what humbling sounds like. Although, he would have liked Flores to elaborate on the specific lessons he has learned. Further, he credits Flores for his job as head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Le Batard vehemently says Flores did a good job under impossible circumstances. Ultimately, it gives greater context to Flores’ impact as a first-time head coach, especially as Tua’s numbers with Flores compared to current coach Mike McDaniel have become a key point of reference for those following this story.

Le Batard highlights a shift in the league’s power dynamics, noting how Tua Tagovailoa’s new contract and criticism of past coaching reflect a changing landscape. With the security of his contract, Tagovailoa exemplifies how quarterbacks now wield more power and influence in the league. Le Batard also points to Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers as further examples of this trend.

Even still, Dan was shocked by what happened with Flores on Tuesday. The new power dynamic in the league means that Flores’ tough-love coaching style learned under the Bill Belichick coaching tree now requires him to fight to maintain job security. To succeed, he needs players to show their support publicly.

Le Batard underscores the evolving roles and power of quarterbacks like Tua Tagovailoa. As the conversation around Flores and his coaching style continues, it’s clear that the league’s landscape is shifting, with new challenges and expectations for both coaches and players.
