There are many intriguing options to consider for Comeback Player of the Year on the DraftKings Sportsbook, but the most appealing is Cousins at +500. The quarterback will be making his return to football after tearing his Achilles in Week 8 of last season. After spending his last six years with the Vikings, Cousins will be calling the shots for the Falcons this season. The veteran inked a massive four-year, $180 million deal to become Atlanta’s new quarterback and has been a full participant in training camp this summer, despite tearing his Achilles less than a year ago. Before that injury, Cousins was well on his way to another stellar season, throwing for 18 touchdowns in his eight starts while averaging an efficient 7.5 YPA. Before his campaign was cut short, Cousins had thrown for over 4,000 yards and at least 29 touchdowns in each of the previous three seasons.
Furthermore, the veteran had competed in at least 15 games for eight straight seasons before last year. This Achilles injury was the first major injury of his NFL tenure, and assuming Cousins can get back to his durable ways this season – which feels likely, given he was ready to begin training camp – he should be in store for one of the best campaigns of his career. Cousins joins an Atlanta offense that features some truly elite playmakers in Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts. After incredible college careers, all three of these players were top-eight draft picks by the Falcons over the last three years but none of them have yet to fully reach their potential in the NFL. This could be due to poor and inconsistent quarterback play thus far during their time in Atlanta.
Cousins is far and away the best quarterback that Robinson, London, and Pitts have played with in the NFL. Cousins’ efficiency should not only help these skilled players reach their best seasons yet as professionals, but also help the Falcons become one of the best offenses in the league. On top of having arguably the best group of weapons he has ever had at his disposal, Cousins gets the benefit of playing under pass savvy OC Zac Robinson, who was the quarterback’s/passing game coordinator for the Rams the past two seasons.
On the DraftKings Sportsbook, Cousins is a -295 favorite to throw 25+ touchdowns this coming season and the Falcons are a -135 favorite to win over 9.5 games, which certainly bodes well for the veteran. Additionally, a quarterback has won the Comeback Player of the Year award for six consecutive years. One could make a sound argument that Cousins should be the favorite for this award and that he needs to be backed at this favorable price of +500 on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
