Congratulations to Michigan on its National Championship, but if you ask anybody that knows what they are doing when it comes to betting college football, they’d tell you Georgia was the best team last season. The Bulldogs ripped off another 12-0 regular season, but all it took was a loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship game to knock UGA out of the field. Now the revenge tour is on. Here’s how I’m backing the Dogs on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Georgia OVER 10.5 Wins (-120) — 2-units
SEC Championship Game Winner: Georgia (+190) — 1.5-units
National Championship Winner: Georgia (+300) — 1-unit
Whole lot of action here on the Bulldogs, but I do feel this is the best team in the country, and they’re fully fueled to show us why. UGA faces a killer schedule in this loaded SEC, opening up against Clemson in Atlanta and only playing three SEC home games. The schedule includes trips to Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss. Normally, I wouldn’t want to back a team playing so many difficult games. However, I just flip this around and look at it the other way — Clemson, ‘Bama, Texas and Ole Miss have the issue of facing Georgia.
UGA brings 14 starters back, including starting QB Carson Beck. Kirby Smart is going to have these dudes ready to roll following the SEC Championship game loss. Prior to that game, the Bulldogs were on a 29-game winning streak. Over the last three seasons combined, Georgia is 42-2. This team is HARD to beat, and now you get the Bulldogs with one of their most loaded teams yet and revenge on their minds.
Georgia hasn’t lost a regular season game since the 2020 Covid season. It has ripped off three consecutive 12-0 regular seasons. Not that the more difficult schedule won’t play a role this time around, but I don’t see this team dropping two games and giving themselves any type of chance to miss the College Football Playoff for a second straight season — hence the over on the win total.
That brings us to the SEC Championship Game. Assuming UGA doesn’t drop more than one game, we should see it in Atlanta during the first weekend in December. We already know that if they are playing in the game, the Bulldogs will be favored, so I’ll play the +190 now. While it’s not a large wager, I do also want some money on the favorite here. Georgia is going to make a deep run, and even if I change my mind on who the champion will be when we get to December, I still think we can hedge off this ticket just fine. But it’s going to take a lot to change my mind — the Bulldogs are loaded, and I expect to see them playing on January 20.
