After being selected 12th overall by the Broncos in the NFL draft, Nix has created a ton of buzz this summer with some impressive preseason showings. In his preseason debut vs. the Colts on August 11th, Nix completed 15-of-21 passes for 125 yards, a touchdown, and finished with 17 rushing yards on three carries. Then, in his second preseason start this past Sunday vs. the Packers, Nix continued to impress, completing 8-of-9 passes for 80 yards and touchdown, while also rushing three times for 12 yards. Overall, the rookie has completed 76.7% of his passes and boasts a 116.7 quarterback rating thus far in the preseason. Nix’s efficient passing combined with his willingness to rush has made fans very excited about his dual threat ability, and as a result, Nix has been a very popular bet this summer for Offensive Rookie Of the Year.
Per DK Network’s Julian Edlow, Nix’s odds to win OROY on the DraftKings Sportsbook have moved all the way from his opening odds of +3500 to +1100, due to him receiving 29% of the bets for 34% of the handle for the market on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
Nix now carries the fifth best odds to win OROY, trailing Caleb Williams (+135), Jayden Daniels (+475), Marvin Harrison Jr. (+650) and Malik Nabers (+1100).
While Williams hasn’t been as efficient as Nix in the preseason—he has only completed 50% of his passes—the No. 1 overall hasn’t seen as much preseason action as Nix and is still viewed as the top rookie as the regular season approaches. Especially when targeting fellow rookie Rome Odunze, Williams has flashed elite potential at times this preseason, despite the limited action.
As for Daniels, the rookie was named the Commanders’ starting quarterback earlier this week. While he also hasn’t seen as much preseason work as Nix, Daniels has looked like a NFL ready quarterback, completing 80% of his passes and rushing for 16 yards on three carries.
All the players ahead of Nix in the betting market were selected before the quarterback in the NFL draft due to their more impressive college resumes, but his excellent preseason has certainly made him a contender. As mentioned above, Nix’s odds have dramatically moved since the start of the preseason, and attacking the rookie now at his +1100 on the DraftKings Sportsbook feels like the best move while the price is still reasonable.
