Marte has been dealing with a nagging sprained ankle and is now being placed on the 10-day IL after reaggravating the injury this past Sunday.
There was hope the second baseman would avoid the IL when he first sprained his ankle last week, but after tweaking it again Sunday, the Diamondbacks have decided to let Marte heal with the postseason quickly approaching. The infielder was named to his second All-Star team this season and has been excellent this year with a .298 batting average, 30 homers and 81 RBIs in 116 games.
With Marte unavailable Monday vs. the Marlins, Kevin Newman ($5,400 for Showdown) will start at second base and bat ninth. Despite the poor lineup spot, the infielder is a viable punt for Monday’s Showdown slate with Arizona facing Adam Oller ($15,600), who is making his season debut after being called up from the minors. In this spot, the Diamondbacks present a healthy O/U of 4.5 runs and they are a -205 ML favorite over Miami on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
