Young Nationals lead Washington past the Phillies, 6-4

The Nationals are seven games under .500 and 10 games out of the final NL Wild Card spot, so they still have a lot of growing to do. However, on Sunday, their bright, rising stars showed up late to help them avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of their division-rival Phillies.

CJ Abrams ($5,300; 23 FPTS) produced a game-high 23 fantasy points by going 2-for-4 and stealing three bases. The Nationals had plenty of contributors, though, with home runs from Keibert Ruiz ($3,200; 16 FPTS), Alex Call ($3,200; 16 FPTS) and James Wood ($4,800; 20 FPTS). Wood’s home run was an absolute moon shot, and the 21-year-old now has five homers and a .362 wOBA over his 42 MLB games this season. In his last 16 games, he has hit .351 BA with three of those homers and 12 RBI while also stealing four bases.

The Nationals had to battle back from an early hole after Trea Turner ($5,800; 19 FPTS) continued his huge series against his former team with a dinger in the third inning:

Bryson Stott ($3,700; 14 FPTS) and Brandon Marsh ($3,300; 14 FPTS) also went back-to-back in the loss for the Phillies. Despite Sunday’s defeat, the Phillies are still 7 1/2 games ahead of the Braves in the NL East, where they are -1100 to win the division. They also have the shortest odds at +110 to have the No. 1 seed in the National League. Looking ahead to when the postseason starts, the Phillies are +265 to win the National League and +600 to win the World Series. Those are the third-shortest championship odds in the MLB behind only the Yankees and Dodgers.
