Minshew Mania lives on!
The Raiders will go with Gardner Minshew as their starting QB for Week 1, according to Coach Antonio Pierce.
Minshew won a preseason competition against second-year QB Aidan O’Connell after joining the team on a two-year, $25 million deal this past offseason. Minshew started 13 games for the Colts last season, going 7-6 in those games and piling up 3,305 passing yards with 15 passing touchdowns, three rushing scores and nine interceptions.
It was a new career-high in games started for the 28-year-old, who was originally drafted by the Jaguars and spent time with the Eagles before landing in Indy last season. He was expected to back up rookie Anthony Richardson, but Richardson’s early season injury opened the door for Minshew to step into a starting role.
This year, Minshew will start from Week 1 after beating out O’Connell, who was the incumbent starter after being a fourth-round pick in 2023. He started 10 games last season, going 5-5 as a starter and finished with 2,218 passing yards with 12 passing touchdowns, one rushing score and seven interceptions.
Minshew and the Raiders open the season against the Chargers in Los Angeles, where they are currently three-point underdogs while the game has an over/under of 42.5. In that contest, Minshew has a salary of $5,300 for DFS in Week 1, including the NFL $4M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st].
The Raiders are currently +300 to make the playoffs and +900 to win the AFC West, where they have to take on the Chargers and Chiefs. The over/under on wins for the Raiders this season is 6.5.
