Gerrit Cole ($8,200; 25.9 FPTS) was a problem the young Detroit Tigers lineup had no chance of solving Friday night. The reigning AL Cy-Young winner went six scoreless innings, walked a pair, and punched out eight.
The Yankees offense was unable to match the sustained excellence their ace provided, but did enough to leave Comerica Park with the win. Oswaldo Cabrera ($2,500; 14 FPTS) returned to the big leagues with a vengeance, launching a sweeper to left field on a solo shot in the 5th inning.
In the 8th, the captain put an exclamation point on the game for New York. Aaron Judge ($6,900; 14 FPTS) crushed his 44th homer of the season as his quest to 400 career bombs officially began.
The scorching-hot Juan Soto ($6,500; 2 FPTS) was quiet in comparison, going 0-3 at the dish and only reaching base once on a walk.
The Tigers were only able to muster five hits, including the first career knock for 24-year-old rookie Trey Sweeney ($2,000; 3 FPTS).
