Jazz Chisholm Jr. ruled out at least 3-4 weeks

The Yankees officially placed Chisholm on the 10-day injured list ahead of their Wednesday night matchup against the White Sox (-245; O/U 9) and recalled Oswald Peraza, who will help fill in some of his playing time at 3B.

On Tuesday, manager Aaron Boone said that Chisholm suffered a UCL injury, but reports on Wednesday indicate that the team is hopeful he can avoid surgery and still return this season. Chisholm originally sustained the injury on this play against the White Sox on Monday.

While he did score from second base on that infield hit, his elbow was caught awkwardly underneath him, and he was forced to leave the game. The team is still determining if he will need surgery, which would cost him the rest of the season, or if he will be able to rest and recover before returning in 3-4 weeks.

Chisholm has had durability concerns throughout his time in the MLB, but he has also shown a very high ceiling when available. This year, he had 20 homers and 27 stolen bases in his 115 games between the Marlins and the Yankees. Since being moved at the deadline, he went 18-for-57 (.316) with seven homers, five stolen bases and a .445 wOBA.

Whether he’s able to return this season or for the postseason will be a key storyline to watch for the Yankees, as his absence will be huge for New York as they battle the Orioles in the AL East. Right now, New York is -175 to win the division, while the Orioles are +135 even though they are only 1/2 game behind New York. The Yankees are also +550 to win the World Series with the second-shortest odds in the MLB behind only the Dodgers.
