Nabers suffered a low ankle sprain Sunday and has missed two straight practices, but the rookie receiver told the media Tuesday that he’ll be ready to go for Week 1. Nabers also added that “it wasn’t that bad of an injury,” when asked about the ailment.
The rookie out of LSU was selected by the Giants with the No. 6 overall pick in this past NFL Draft and, rightfully so, New York has very high hopes for Nabers. In his final season with the Tigers, Nabers caught 89 passes for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns in 13 games. With these excellent numbers, Nabers finished second in votes for the Fred Biletnikoff Award — which is rewarded each year to the most outstanding receiver in college football — finishing only behind Marvin Harrison Jr. Standing at 6’1 with incredible speed, Nabers has all the makings of a star NFL receiver and he should operate as the Giants’ No. 1 receiving option right of the gate.
With New York lacking legitimate threats outside of Nabers, the rookie should handle a large target share when healthy this season, but his chemistry with quarterback Daniel Jones remains to be seen and the Giants’ overall lack of offensive weapons could make them one of the weakest teams in the league. That being said, Nabers is very reasonably priced for Week 1 at only $5,900 and he faces a Vikings’ defense that yielded the fourth-most FPTS to receivers last season. If Nabers is a full-go for this matchup, he will have to be considered for GPPs. Furthermore, currently ranking as WR27 in DraftKings’ Best Ball rankings, Nabers feels like a great buy that is going slightly too late for his upside. He also has merit to finish as the rookie leader in receiving yards at +370 on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
