The men’s U.S. basketball team brought home another gold medal over the weekend, dashing the hopes of host France. And in the final two games of the Olympic tournament, Chef Curry was COOKING!
Yes, Steph hit some of the most INSANE shots of all-time as he hit dagger after dagger late to seal a U.S victory over France. He was cooking so much that it’s hard to say which shot JuJu is talking about when he says Steph sank the most impressive shot in U.S. basketball history. And for a brief moment, Mike Ryan was insanely jealous of Warriors fans. At the bar where he watched the gold medal game, everyone was united in their love for the flag and Steph Curry (as well as their hatred for Jayson Tatum) and everybody felt like what a Warriors fan felt like during the run of their dynasty. Mike says we’ve never seen anything like that, a guy who can sink a 3 over one of the tallest individuals on the planet like it don’t matter. And even after he makes the dagger 3s, Dan points out France started sending double teams and Steph still was unbothered because he’s the greatest shooter we’ve ever seen!
At one point, Dan says he was almost convinced to lean toward rooting for the underdog to make it a close game (until he remembered they were a French underdog), but Steph brought him back around with just his sheer brilliance. Mike points out that in 1992 it was interesting because of the sheer dominance of the Dream Team. Now you need moments, and in order to have moments like that Steph moment the U.S. has to be tested. We don’t get those LeBron moments against Serbia unless the U.S. gets tested. You need Team USA to get tested in order to get moments like that iconic image of Steph shooting over Wemby, which may go down as the greatest image of Steph’s legendary career.
Furthermore, this U.S. team did something truly amazing — they made Stugotz care about something! Because the rest of the world has closed the gap with the United States, Stugotz found himself caring at about the halfway point of the gold medal game when he entered not really caring, as per usual. Steph put on a performance for the ages, Stu says, and he found himself caring more than he ever has because because the rest of the world has caught up. So congrats, USA Basketball, Dan says, you done nothing more impressive than make Stugotz care about something in his fifties!
