Despite never playing a game in a Jets’ uniform, Reddick has requested a trade from the team, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons with the Eagles, Reddick was traded to the Jets this March and he was apparently excited to the join the franchise. Now, fast forward almost five months later, and Reddick has yet to report to Jets’ training camp this summer as he is seeking contract extension.
New York reportedly offered Reddick an extension when they first acquired him, but Reddick clearly wasn’t pleased with the offer. The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his current contract and is reportedly seeking an extension that would make him one of the highest paid edge rushers in the NFL. In his 18 games with the Eagles last season, Reddick finished with 11 sacks and 29 solo tackles.
While having Reddick would be a notable boost, the Jets did finish sixth in sacks per game without the Pro Bowler a year ago. Perhaps after a few months since acquiring Reddick, the Jets don’t believe he is worth the money he is seeking, but now, they find themselves in a difficult debacle, as this situation with Reddick will likely make him a hard asset to trade for fair compensation.
