Alright. Let’s start with the bad news first. It’s Monday. You’re likely reading this back at work. My condolences. However, if you’re able to make it through the day, there’s 11 games of baseball waiting for you this evening. I’d say that’s a pretty decent trade.
Let’s break down some of the bets I’m looking at for tonight’s slate.
Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks
Brandon Pfaadt to Record a Win (-110)
Unless you’re building a parlay, there’s really no way to bet the Diamondbacks on the moneyline this evening. Heck, they’re not even that tantalizing on the run line. So let’s get creative.
Pfaadt is in the midst of a true breakout campaign, carrying over his success from the playoffs last season. In 23 starts, the sophomore RHP owns a 3.92 ERA, yet that figure is backed up by a 3.31 xERA and a 3.56 FIP. He’s also been on quite the run since June 30. In that span of time, Pfaadt has managed a 2.66 ERA and 2.64 FIP across seven starts. The big key to Pfaadt’s dominance in this stretch? He’s only walking 3.2% of opposing batters and giving up 0.66 home runs per nine.
Still, Pfaadt can’t get the win all by his lonesome. He’ll need some early run support. Luckily, I don’t think that’ll be an issue on Monday. Arizona’s bats are red-hot at the moment. In August, the Diamondbacks lead baseball in average (.295), home runs (25), wOBA (.401) and wRC+ (160). Meanwhile, Cal Quantrill owns a 7.52 ERA in his last seven appearances. Opponents are slashing .308/.395/.602 off the veteran right-hander since June 29. If this is a matchup that seems lopsided — that’s because it is.

New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox
Luis Gil Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-125)
Let’s go back to May 18 for a moment. On that fateful day three months ago, do you remember what you were doing? No? Me neither. However, I can tell you for a fact that Luis Gil was in the Bronx striking out 14 White Sox hitters in six innings of work. There’s obviously no guarantees that that’s going to happen again this evening, as the White Sox’s roster is certainly looking a little different, but seven strikeouts seems very obtainable for the Yankees’ rookie RHP.
Among pitchers with 100 innings thrown in 2024, Gil’s 28.5% strikeout rate ranks as the 10th-best mark. He’s struck out at least seven opponents in three of his last five starts. As for Chicago, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more favorable opponent for this prop. The White Sox own a 24.7% strikeout rate across the last two weeks and they pair that with a 35.4% chase rate — the highest figure in the American League. Crucially, Chicago also sits dead-last in walk rate over the past 14 days (5.3%). Control is Gil’s red flag. If he’s not wasting pitches walking half of the White Sox’s lineup, there’s more time for strikeouts and whiffs.
