Juan Soto and Aaron Judge power Yankees past Rangers

The Yankees got a scare from their bullpen late, but they held on to get the 8-7 win on Sunday afternoon to take two of three games from the visiting Rangers after the teams split a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Bronx Bombers lived up to their nickname with four home runs in the victory. Aaron Judge ($6,800; 29 FPTS) homered in the seventh inning, giving him 299 career long balls and eight home runs since the All-Star break, while also hitting an impressive .431.

Before Judge went deep, New York already had two home runs from Juan Soto ($6,400; 28 FPTS) and another homer from Giancarlo Stanton ($4,600; 22 FPTS). Judge was owned in 20.4% of lineups in Sunday afternoon’s $222K Bat Flip on DraftKings while Soto was only in 6.4% of lineups.

After Judge’s blast, the Yankees seemed comfortably ahead, 8-3, but the Rangers stormed back with three runs in the eighth inning on home runs by Nathaniel Lowe ($3,400; 16 FPTS) and Carson Kelly ($2,900; 24 FPTS). In the ninth inning, Adolis Garcia ($4,100; 17 FPTS) added an RBI single and then stole second, but Yankees’ closer Clay Holmes ($4,000; 3.2 FPTS) got Leody Taveras ($2,300; 4 FPTS) to ground out to 2B with runners on second and third to end the game.

The win puts the Yankees four games clear of the Royals and firmly in control of a Wild Card. It also moves them into a tie with the Orioles for first place in the AL East. Both teams have an identical 70-49 record, but the Yankees are -150 to win the division while the Orioles are +110. The Yankees are also -20000 to make the playoffs and have the third-shortest odds to win the World Series at +550 behind only the Dodgers and Phillies.
