It was a series of unfortunate events, turned fortunate for the Snakes on Saturday night. Arizona started off hot with a solo home run from second baseman Ketel Marte ($6,200; 16 FPTS), followed by a score off a Philly error to put the Diamondbacks up 2-0. Then the night took a turn.
Ketel Marte left the game early after Garrett Stubbs ($2,200; 7 FPTS) collided with his left leg while sliding into second base, bending his ankle at an awkward angle. Marte was able to limp off the field, and after the game, the team reported he suffered a left ankle contusion. Shortly after, Zac Gallen exited the game in the top of the fifth after punching out just three Phillies. The ace pitcher appeared to injure his groin attempting to field a comebacker, but no further details have been reported.
Losing two players back-to-back must’ve ignited something in the Dbacks, because the rest of the night was full of fireworks. Jake McCarthy ($4,100; 32 FPTS) got the vibes going with a two-run shot in the bottom of the 5th, Josh Bell ($3,700; 14 FPTS) smacked a double and drove in two, then McCarthy hit another home run, making the tally 8-1.
Corbin Carroll ($4,700; 21 FPTS) wanted in on the action as well, hitting a three-run dinger to put salt in the Phillies’ wound.
Philadelphia didn’t get much offense going, scoring their loan run in the top of the fifth off a Bryce Harper ($5,500; 8 FPTS) ground out to shortstop.
With tonight’s win, Arizona holds third place in the NL West—just one game behind San Diego—and has a league-best 16 wins post All-Star break.
